Field Technician - Telecommunications

This position is responsible for the maintenance of telephone systems and business communications equipment as well as communications wiring throughout Nova Scotia..

This is a dynamic role which requires flexibility in a client centric environment to satisfy overall goals. Top notch customer service skills are mandatory!

Daily Duties and Responsibilities

• Installation and testing of both voice and data network cabling.
• Installation of communication telephone systems both VOIP and TDM
• Understanding and knowledge of telecommunication infrastructures and voice and data communications applications and associated testing equipment
• Testing and troubleshoot communication equipment.
• Interpret construction drawings and adhere to BICSI & EIA/TIA standards.
• Maintaining assigned vehicle and tools.

Required Education and Experience

• 5+ years' experience in the communications and structured cabling field
• Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
• Electronics, IT and telephony course's considered an asset but not mandatory
• Nova Scotia Communication Cabling Specialist certification considered an asset but not mandatory
• Working knowledge of AVAYA, and Nortel BCM and Norstar considered an asset but not mandatory
• Working knowledge of VoIP applications, not mandatory

• Outstanding communication skills coupled with the proven ability to professionally interact with key contacts within all levels of an organization. Always be customer focused.
• Positive, outgoing and confident nature along with a good sense of humour
• Genuinely committed to success though teamwork
• Be able to work in a faced paced environment.
• Be able to work as part of a team or work independently.
• Committed to continued learning and skills development.

Additional Information:

• Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean drivers abstract
• Must be bondable
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends based on project requirements
• Travel throughout Atlantic Canada may be a requirement from time to time
• Must be willing to be part of an on-call rotation
• Being able to work at heights and confined spaces
